What's it all about Well lets see. Mountainboarding, also should be called all terrain boarding has been around for about 10 years. It started really in the USA when skateboarders starting using bigger solid rubber tyres to take their normal skate boards off road to dusty tracks, these solid rubber tyres developed into pneumatic, pump up tyres. then boards got longer and then straps were added to hold your feet in. Today its a sport growing all over the world, I’ve been riding for 4 years and have been to France, Australia, New Zealand and Czech republic both free riding (riding a board anywhere for fun) to compete in events such as freestyle (very similar to snowboard freestyle) and boarder-x (big BMX downhill courses). The boards will take all terrain, wet and dry so really it's a all terrain all weather sport, easy to learn. It'll take about half a hour to stand and learn to turn at low speed. Then it's just a case of how high you go up a slope and how fast you want to go. After a hour you'll look cool enough to fool most people.
The boards don’t cost that much. £180 - £280, so less than some good mountain bikes, way less than a week in France snowboarding (and this is something you can do anywhere in the UK, just find a hill. Not difficult here.) pads and helmet are cheap everywhere you go, you may even have stuff from your bike or skate days? It can be done anywhere, and with the addition of a small or big ramp, freestyle is easy to practise. |
